Have you ever thought of travelling back in time when living is conceived to be more primitve yet simpler? Have you ever thought of going back to those days of savagery and absence of definite rules? Well, we all know that we certainly cannot do that. However, there are things that we can do in order to mimic the same idea.
Going to Belize presents a lot of opportunities that will allow you to do so. For instance, you can visit the Actun Tunichil Muknal and follow the old paths used by the Mayan civilization in the past and probably uncover secrets hidden deep beneath the surrounding forests and the caves.
Actun Tunichil Muknal is located near San Ignacio Cayo and happens to be a notable Mayan site that used to contain skeletons, ceramics, and stoneware. The most famous among these skeletons is "The Crystal Maiden," a skeleton a young girl who is assumed to be a sacrifice victim and whose bones have been completely covered by the natural processes of the cave, leaving it with a sparkling appearance.
Before even entering the cave system, however, an adventurer will have to pass by the paths in the dense forests (a 45-minute ordeal, actually) and wade through a pool before even coming up into the cave system. I'm sure that anyone interested in a bit of archaeology and history would like to visit this cave because some of the skeletons and the artifacts are still inside! In fact, the continuous theft of some of the artifacts has already become a concern among officials.
And with the cold temperature inside the site, it's not uncommon for some visitors to chill once inside, so better be ready with your thick clothing on.
You think you can handle it? Then better be fit, because it's going to be one hell of a Belizean adventure. The caves won't be mild at all to the visitors who dare visit them.
