Tourism in Belize received a sharp blow in recent months because of economic difficulties that faces the rest of the world today. The case of Belize is not unique, anyway. Countries that are also highly reliant on tourism are experiencing the same problems. But life has to go on. Instead of whining and getting depressed over it, businessmen are capable of turning things around in their favor and bring about positive changes in the business landscape.
Just recently, the Belize Hotel Association had its annual general meeting at the Belize Biltmore Plaza last November 24. The overnight hotel industry is having a hard time these days due to the reason mentioned above. The industry, however, has already experienced worse in the past, which is why current and outgoing President Einer Gomez still looks optimistically to the future of the industry.
7 News Belize had an interview with the Association's President, Einer Gomez, which you can check here. In the interview, Gomez emphasized that the industry players have already put their troubles behind them. Now, they are concentrating on marketing their products so that when the economy's imminent recover arrives, they will be prepared to take a share in the growth. What they are doing is embarking on a huge marketing campaign that will encompass at least 50 major trade shows in continents like Europe, North America, and South America.
Belize is a country of natural wonders. It does not have to have major constructions ongoing just to give potential tourists some reason to visit the country. Adventure trails are abundant. Beaches are numerous. And the Belizean culture is outstanding. What really needs to be done to improve revenue is a bit of marketing and promotion.
The industry may be facing dark times at the moment, but there's certainly no stopping them in the foreseeable future. The members are confident that, at the end of the day, they will get more heads to lie down in their hotel beds.
