We've had a lot (and different) experiences wherever we go. You may have good times in one place, and bad times in another. Similarly, some people have a good time in one city, while others don't. It's all a matter of learning from these experiences and applying the lessons learned on your own trip so you will have a wonderful time. Here's one example from a tourist who visited Belize City by bus. Because it is still a Third World nation, it isn't surprising that Belize still has a lot of catching up to do before it becomes a good place to be in. While not lacking in natural beauty, the country lacks people who can lead Belize into good governance. Here's a personal story from one expat in Belize. He/she actually advised future tourists to avoid San Pedro. Is there any basis? We'll find out. it's a good thing to hear that there are organizations here in Belize that are pushing for tourism that pushes for sustainable development. With their support, citizens of Belize and the tourists are starting to realize their environment's worth. This is just a proof that we can all make a change if we really wanted to.Here are some of those organizations I was referring to. The promotion of sustainable tourism won't be complete if support for projects is not fully there. For something like sustainable tourism development to be a success, there should be support coming from the government, the commercial sector, and the tourists. Without this, everything would be in vain. Be part of the solution. Be a volunteer for the Belize Eco-Tourism Association (BETA). Those of us who are used to the hustle and bustle of the city may think that peace is for the lazy and backward, but I think you should not form an opinion about something which you haven't experienced for yourself. Read about this gentleman who had some similar thoughts unless he was mesmerized by the calm and serenity of the region and didn't want to come back home!!Link: Memories of Belize, Belize Newspaper and Magazine Articles Tags: serenity • peace and quiet • 0 Comments. - Permalink |
