In December of the year nineteen hundred and ninety one, Laughing Bird Caye National Park, or the LBCNP, was very much designated as a national park.

Eleven miles off of the coast of Placencia Village is where the LBCNP is actually located. A long history of community involvement exists at this particular park of which is being mentioned.

In nineteen ninety one, the result of the situation was largely due to community concerns and what not, over the development of which has led to the actual protection of the Caye itself.
